Making a Mark with a Memorable Logo Design
Logos matter – a lot!
But it’s sometimes difficult to explain why.
According to Sagi Haviv “A logo is not communication; it’s identification. It’s there to remind you of the company or product”.
A Brand embodies the qualities of your business and coveys them in one simple form – the logo. Logo design is probably the most important thing you will ever do for your business. So don’t skimp on budget and make sure you work with the right people.
Research by Renderforest, in fact, shows that 75% of people recognize a brand by its logo, making it the top brand identifier. Other factors like visual style and colour signature rank second and third.
Here are 3 simple steps to making sure you get the best logo possible for your business:
- Keep it Simple
It goes without saying, but in order to be memorable, a logo needs to be simple. It’s difficult to remember something that has a lot of detail. A good way to understand if a logo is simple enough is to reduce it to a thumbnail, resize it for social, turn it into a favicon. If it works and can still be recognised easily on all these small formats, then it’s simple enough.
- Make sure it’s unique
Sounds obvious, but you would be amazed how many brands take ‘inspiration’ from others and end up looking like a cheap copy. If you copy a famous logo, or another company from your industry you will forever be branded a copycat, and you will be just a bad copy. It’s likely that the original was created with a lot of thought and based on the company it represents, so copying it will never make it a good fit for you.
Uniqueness, at least in your industry and your area, is a must. It’s pointless being recognisable if you risk being mistaken for some other brand. A truly unique and relevant logo permeates the feeling of the business and also draws in the right people.
- Create a relevant story around it
Relevance is extremely important. By creating a logo based on your company’s essence you automatically have something that has a story. A strong relevance to what you do and a deep connection to who you are as a business. A truly unique and relevant logo permeates the feeling of the business and draws in the right people.
This is why it really helps to hire a design agency that has excellent storytellers, strategists and art workers.
